Obituary

Edinburg - Ted Maxwell Dimmitt, 84, passed away Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at his residence in Edinburg. Ted was born in Stevensville, MT to Basil and Mary Dimmitt on May 21, 1937. He is preceded  in death by his parents Basil and Mary Dimmitt; brothers Ray and Chuck Dimmitt; sister Marybell Howard; sons Ronald and Greg. Ted is survived by his wife of 66 years, Doris; daughter Sherry Wiess; granddaughters Brook (Long) Tong, and Elizabeth (Kenny) Hill; great-grandchildren Stellan Hill, Lyla Tong, Nathan Hill, Aaron Tong and Amrita Hill. Also surviving him are a host of nieces, nephews and special lifelong friends Sue Lombardi and Shaun Reel.

Ted joined the United States Air Force in September 1954 and served his country proudly for 20 years.  He was transferred across the United States, Europe, Easter Island and Southeast Asia.  He retired in Spokane Washington and eventually split his time between Usk, Washington and Edinburg, Texas. Ted was honored to present the annual Veterans Day programs at Orange Park Grove Park.  He spent countless hours researching his projects and his computer skills were always labeled as M.S.O. Machine Smarter than Operator.

Through the persistence of Lupita Perez, Commandant of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Ted became a charter member  VFW Post 12178.  He valued his friendships with the post members and enjoyed sharing a cup of coffee with Lupita and Mickey. He was respected for his convictions and you knew where you stood with him.  He loved his family, cherished his friends and defended his flag.  He will be greatly missed. As Ted would say, “Keep Smiling” and “Eat your dessert first”.
