Obituary

Edcouch - Modesta F. Benavides passed away to be with our Lord Sunday, January 17, 2021 at Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco. Modesta was born October 14, 1931 in San Diego, Texas. Her parents were Rafael and Josefina Flores. Modesta loved to work with children at the elementary level; she also enjoyed working as an aide in the nursing profession. She was a devout Catholic and attended St. Theresita Catholic Church in Edcouch. She was well known in our local community and will be missed by many. Modesta is survived by her sons, Rafael Orlando Benavides and Oscar Rene Benavides; daughters, Odilia B. Madrigal (Jose Eligio), Olga B. Gonzalez (Raul), and Sandra B. Hernandez; 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She preceded in death by her husband, Tomas Benavides, Jr., son, Tomas Edward Benavides, and her parents.

Viewing will be Wednesday, January 20, 2021 from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Graveside Service will be Thursday, January 21, 2021 at 9:00 a.m. at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco. Cardoza Funeral Home in Edcouch is in charge of arrangements. (We will be live-streaming graveside services Thursday at Highland Memorial Park).
