Maria Elena Villarreal

Edcouch-Maria Elena Villarreal, 88 went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 23, 2022 at her Edcouch residence surrounded by her loving family. Maria Elena was born on May 5, 1934 to Manuel and Agustina Hernandez in Edcouch, Texas.

Maria Elena was a servant of God and a devout Catholic, she loved praying the rosary daily and was always thinking of others in her prayers. 

Maria Elena worked for Edcouch- Elsa ISD as a cafeteria worker for many years as well as a migrant farm worker traveling to various states and Minnesota with her husband and family for many summers.  She was always seeked out for counsel for various issues and she was always available to offer her services to family and friends.  

Maria Elena is preceded in death by her husband, Onesimo F. Villarreal; parents, Manuel and Agustina Hernandez; sister, Angelita Hernandez; brothers, Reynaldo, Ricardo and Rogelio Hernandez. She is survived by her loving children, Onesimo Noel (Estella) Villarreal, Luis Jaime Villarreal, Armando (Lourdes) Villarreal, Maria Teresa Villarreal, Isabel V. (Rolando, Jr.) Ramirez, Irene (Anselmo) Garza, Irma (Javier) Garcia, and Luis Jaime (Natalie) Villarreal, Jr. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Leon, Esteban, Orlando Javier, Patricia, Joshua, Marcos, Mario, Martin, Ian Lee, Victoria, Nicholas, Allee Marie, Michael, Eric, Vanessa, Gus, Sylvia, Jaime III, Kataleya; numerous great grandchildren and siblings, Tomasa Perez, Delfina Hernandez and Rene Hernandez.

Family will receive friends Friday, August 26, 2022 from 1:00 to 9:00 p.m. with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. at Cardoza Funeral Home in Edcouch. Funeral Mass will be Saturday, August 27, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at St Theresa Of the Infant Jesus Catholic Church in Edcouch. Internment will follow at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Cardoza Funeral Home of Edcouch.
