EDINBURG/ELSA - Adan Mercado, 85, went to be with the Lord on Monday, August 12, 2019.
Adan was a devoted father, grandfather, brother and uncle who enjoyed spending time with his family. His gentle smile revealed his love and compassion for others. He was a kind-hearted, generous and hardworking man. Having learned the value of hard work at a young age, Adan instilled this in his children and taught by example. He was a joyful man who enjoyed telling stories of his experiences and had a terrific sense of humor as well as a contagious laugh. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 44 years, Maria B. Mercado; his parents, Manuel Mercado Sr. and Emilia G. Mercado; his brothers Hector Mercado, Raul Mercado and Juan Mercado; and his sister, Maria M. Garza.
Adan is survived by his daughter, Emilia Mercado; his son, Adan (Stella) Mercado Jr.; his grandchildren, Cristina L. Mercado and Jacob (Elizabeth) Mercado; his sisters, Raquel Santana, Alicia Charles, Adelfa (Victor) Luna, Julia (Joe) Cantu, Elida (Eddie) Mercado, and Norma H. Mercado; his brothers Ricardo (Ruth) Mercado, Gilberto (Adelina) Mercado, Oscar (Maria) Mercado, and Samm Mercado; his sisters-in-law Amelia Mercado and Paulita Mercado; his cousin Yolanda S. Perez, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and godchildren.
Viewing will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. Holy Rosary Wednesday, August 14, 2019 at Cardoza Funeral Home in Edcouch. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 15, 2019 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Elsa. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco.
Pallbearers will be Jacob A. Mercado, Reynaldo Avila Jr., Pete Charles, Hector Mercado Jr., Ray Mercado and Jaime Mercado.
The family of Adan Mercado wishes to warmly thank you for your comforting words and genuine acts of kindness in our time of sadness. We wish to express our heartfelt gratitude and deep appreciation for your prayers and support during our time of loss. It has meant so much to our family.
Special thanks to his nephew Pete Charles and his wife, Rosa, for visiting him faithfully every day. Also, to his sister and beloved Comadre, Alicia Charles, and his nieces Martina Charles and Elva Charles for always taking the time out of their busy schedules to visit him and for all the food, gifts and great times they shared together. It will always be remembered and greatly appreciated.
